ABOUT THE FILM

Lumberjills is a high-octane documentary currently in progress, exploring the intersection of feminism and athleticism in women’s lumberjack sports.

We invite donors and partners to join us in bringing this ongoing story to the screen — capturing how lumberjills have navigated societal perceptions, physical power, family responsibilities, and identity for over 100 years.

More than a sports documentary, Lumberjills tells the story of universal truths for the majority of citizens of the United States through the lens of labor, gender, identity, and resilience.

Breanna Wing

Breanna Wing uses filmmaking to tell stories about the human experience and the natural world. A Maine native and Chapman University graduate, she has worked from a young age to shed light on conservation issues and, more recently, gender equality.

Breanna began her documentary journey at 14 when she directed and edited her first film, which highlighted the limited capacity of her local humane society. The documentary supported fundraising efforts for a new Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, now a sanctuary for over 3,500 animals each year. A few years later, she expanded her impact by co-directing and co-producing Eye to Eye, a documentary filmed in Cameroon that exposes the illegal bushmeat trade and advocates for the protection of endangered primates.

She transitioned into narrative filmmaking through internships on blockbuster sets, including two Marvel Cinematic Universe films, which paved the way for jobs on major productions like Django Unchained. She was promoted to Art Department Coordinator on an NBC sitcom and has worked as an assistant to producer Victor Hsu, director Jason Winer, and an award-winning casting director.

In recent years, Breanna has expanded into acting, training at Los Angeles studios including Lesly Kahn & Co., Upright Citizens Brigade, and The Groundlings. She has since landed supporting roles in projects by Quentin Tarantino, Adam McKay, and Aaron Sorkin.

Beyond filmmaking, she serves on the board of the nonprofit Cinematography for Actors Institute and the Executive Advisory Council for The Maine Forest and Logging Museum.
